After adding the downloaded content to the list, there is no further response—no pop-up windows or progress bars appear. I have no idea whether the download is in progress or if it has gotten stuck at some stage, and ultimately, the fully downloaded file is not found locally. Is this how the download process is supposed to work, or is this an issue on my end? How should I resolve it?

Hi Lu Lu,

Have you installed Aspera Connect on your computer (download here, scroll to IBM Aspera Connect under IBM Aspera client-deployed software). Once installed, it should launch when you queue a package and show a progress bar for the download.

Best,

Jenn

Hi Jenn,

I’m encountering a similar issue — there are no pop-ups to trigger the Aspera Connect window after adding a file to the queue. In fact, nothing seems to happen, and no files have been downloaded.
FYI, I’ve installed the Aspera Connect app on my MacBook (macOS Sequoia 15.6) and tested both Chrome and Firefox (Safari was tested too but it could not even detect the downloaded app). The Aspera transfer test using the IBM Aspera Connect Diagnostic Tool was successful and indicated no issues with TCP or UDP ports. I also added asp-connect1.humanconnectome.org to the Trusted Hosts list, but still no activity after adding files to the queue.
Do you have any suggestions for resolving this issue?

Thanks,
Wei

Hi Wei,

Did you also install the Aspera Connect plugin/extension (separate from the app) for your browser? The plugin is distributed by the browser company, not from IBM Aspera.

Here’s a screenshot showing what I’m using from Firefox and the version of the Aspera Connect app that I am using with an older Mac OS. At the bottom right is the popup from Aspera Connect that appears when you start to download something:

Unfortunately, I cannot readily test newer OSs. Perhaps others on the list or online have troubleshooting advice or can share what worked for them.

Best,

Jenn

Hi Wei,

Did you click the “Download (1)” button, then the Download Selected button?

Hi Jenn,

Thank you for your prompt reply!
Yes, I’ve installed the extensions for both Firefox and Chrome, but unfortunately, neither worked.
I’ve attached screenshots of my Firefox and Chrome settings, with a file queued in the background. As you can see, nothing appears in the Aspera Connect Transfer window.

Best,
Wei

I did. When I selected both sequentially, the Download pop-up window would disappear and return to the same webpage as before, and nothing was downloaded.

Just a quick update — after restarting my laptop, I was able to download files using both Firefox and Chrome. 🥳
Thanks so much, Jenn!

Hi Jenn, I'm sorry for replying to you so late. I have successfully downloaded the file, and this issue might be caused by my network. Thank you for your help🥰🥰🥳🥳
