Aspera does not launch

Dear hcp-users,

I have downloaded Aspera Connect (v.4.1.1.73 from the ibm website). However, when I try downloading from het hcp website, I get the message:
‘This download requires the Aspera Connect plugin to proceed. Please install the plugin and restart this web browser.’
Then there is a popup entitled Aspera Connect Installer but without any content.

Does anyone know what is going wrong here? Do I need to enable something specifically?

I tried to check my IBM Aspera connecting using the connect diagnostic tool on the website but it does not give me a ‘diagnosis’. So probably something is wrong with my installation but I have followed the steps in the hcp manual (first time use…) and I still do not know why it is not working…

Your help will be highly appreciated.

The problem might also be a Server outage on our side. We sent this out last week on the HCP-Users list:
We have had an issue in our data storage pool that underlies ConnectomeDB. We have confirmed some data loss and are looking for possible corruption. Fortunately, we have multiple copies of the data plus the AWS S3 bucket that we are confident will allow us to reassemble nearly all to all of the lost data.  

We are expecting a 1-2 week downtime in Aspera package downloads as we assess the losses and reassemble any affected data. We'll post updates as we make progress.

In the meantime, you may access HCP-YA imaging data via the S3 bucketConnectomeDB will remain up for functions apart from imaging downloads (AWS credential creation, searching and downloading phenotypic data, etc.).

Sorry for the inconvenience this causes. We are currently also in the midst of moving all data to a new Ceph filesystem that should make events like this one significantly less likely.

As for the Aspera Connect plugin, you need to download it from Aspera and test it there. We have popups in ConnectomeDB, but they are only supposed to get you back to the Aspera site. 

In the meantime, I would advise you to try S3 and also keep trying with ConectomeDB/Aspera as packages will become available gradually as we bring the missing data back online.
