Dear HCP Team,

I have a question regarding the scoring of the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS-2) data from the HCP-Development release.

While examining the data, I noticed that the released male_rawscoreall and female_rawscoreall scores closely match the direct sum of the questionnaire item responses (with only small differences that may reflect missing values for item 52). This made me wonder whether the total scores were computed with or without reverse-scoring the appropriate SRS-2 items.

I also looked into the released T-scores (male_tscoreall and female_tscoreall), which appear to be highly correlated with the raw scores.

My questions are:

  - Were the total scores calculated after applying reverse scoring to the appropriate SRS-2 items?

  - Is there a reason why item 52 contains missing values for some participants, even though their total scores appear to include the contribution of item 52?

Any other related information or documentation regarding the SRS-2 scoring procedure would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and help.

Best regards,

Ruohan Gao

Hi Ruohan,

  1. The total SRS-2 scores were calculated after applying reverse scoring to the appropriate items (3, 7, 11, 12, 15, 17, 21, 22, 26, 32, 38, 40, 43, 45, 48, 52, 55), following the standard SRS-2 scoring procedures.

  1. Regarding the missing values for item 52, the SRS-2 scoring protocol allows for missing responses. If a participant has fewer than seven missing items, the missing responses are imputed using the median value specified in the SRS-2 scoring sheet before calculating the total score. This is why some participants may have a missing value for item 52 in the released data and their total scores include the contribution of item 52.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Best,
Jenn

Dear Jenn,

Thank you for the efficient response.

We initially flagged this because, while analysing the data, we noticed that females have consistently higher SRS-2 T-scores than males in the HCPD sample. This was surprising to us, as males typically have higher SRS scores.

Just to clarify the scoring procedures, does it mean that the raw response scores of these items (3, 7, 11, 12, 15, 17, 21, 22, 26, 32, 38, 40, 43, 45, 48, 52, and 55) are also already been reverse coded? If so, this would explain why the calculated sum of the all item response scores closely matches the reported raw total scores.

Best regards,
Ruohan

Hi Ruohan,
Looping in Jenny who would know about whether the raw SRS-2 scores are reverse coded for HCD.

Best,
Jenn

Items 3, 7, 11, 12, 15, 17, 21, 22, 26, 32, 38, 40, 43, 45, 48, 52, and 55 are not reverse-coded in the raw item scores. These items are reverse-scored during the subscale scoring process.
