Hello,

I am registered on BALSA (username: gmarraffini) and have accepted the
HCP-Young Adult 2025 Open Access Data Use Terms.

I need access to the behavioral/cognitive
scores CSV file (unrestricted_hcp_behavioral.csv or similar) for research purposes.

Could you please provide:
1. Direct download link for the behavioral CSV, or
2. Instructions for accessing it via the new BALSA interface, or
3. AWS S3 path to the file

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Giovanni Marraffini

Also If I could get the AWS S3 credentials for downloading the data using datalad that would be great! Like it says here https://github.com/datalad-datasets/human-connectome-project-openaccess/tree/master

Thank you in advance!

Once you log in, enable the restricted data, then select the data you are looking for from the 'Column Selector' menu, then click the 'Export CSV' button. Let me know if this still doesn't get you what you want.

Hi Giovanni,
If you don't need to download the restricted data, you can skip to the ExportCSV button that Erin pointed to. You can either setup the UI to have the variables you need (Selected Columns with Column Selector) and choose "Selected Columns" or choose "All Non-Restricted Columns".

We had a way to generate AWS S3 credentials in the original ConnectomeDB but we don't have it implemented yet in BALSA. We plan to do this in the next couple of months.

Also note that the imaging data on AWS S3 is the 2017 S1200 Release data not the updated 2025 data available on BALSA. From the HCP-YA 2025 release announcement:

How have HCP-YA data changed?

  • Updated processing on previously released 3T, 7T, and Retest subjects to include:
    • Spin-echo based ("SEBASED") intensity bias field correction of all the fMRI data
    • Elimination of the regression of movement regressors as a step in the fMRI data cleaning (see Glasser et al., 2019 Neuroimage)
    • Addition of multi-run FIX for the 3T task fMRI data
    • Addition of Reclean (improvements to spatial ICA) and Temporal ICA pipelines and processed output for all 3T and 7T fMRI data
    • Due to these updates, data from this 2025 Release should not be mixed with data from the previous "S1200" Release (from 2017)
Best,
Jenn
