Smoothing GIFTI

Dear Experts,

 

I have a GIFTI file (.gii) which is the timeseries of some fMRI data on the cortex of a hemisphere.

I would like to spatially smooth it. I know it’s possible to smooth CIFTIs with wb_command -cifti-smoothing, but does anyone know a way to smooth a GIFTI while respecting the tissue boundaries?

It wouldn't make sense for smoothing to be used on label files, and surface files are a bit different (and our surface smoothing uses a legacy method to reproduce the inflated surfaces we are used to), so -gifti-smoothing would not have been specific enough, just like all the other -metric-* commands.

wb_command -gifti-help has some information on gifti and our terminology regarding it, which may be helpful.
