Dear BALSA support team,
I hope you are doing well. I recently applied for access to the Human Connectome Project (HCP) data through the NIH Data Archive (NDA), and my application has been approved. I also learned that the HCP-YA data will be updated exclusively on the BALSA platform moving forward.
I have a question regarding adding new sub-applicants to my project. If I would like to include additional sub-applicants, do I need to submit a new Data Use Certification (DUC) request through the NIH Data Archive and also submit a separate access request through BALSA? Or would updating the DUC on the NDA side alone be sufficient?
Any clarification on the correct procedure would be appreciated.
Best,
Zack

Hi Zack,
If you are interested in primarily HCP-YA data, know that the data on NDA is not the updated recommended data released as HCP-YA 2025 on BALSA. For new members of your lab/collaborators, each individual should register for BALSA and agree to the HCP terms there. If you are planning to use data from HCP-Aging/AABC, each individual should register and agree to the terms for the AABC project on BALSA.
If you are planning to use data released from the Connectomes Related to Human Disease Projects (CRHDs) or HCP-Development that are currently only on NDA, you will need to submit a new Data Use Certification for HCP/CCF access on NDA with the new members from your institution named.
Best,
Jenn

Yes, since the Baby Connectome Project data are only available on NDA, you must list everyone who will work with that data on an NDA Data Use Certification and get it approved. If you are able to find/obtain information on the BCP data beyond their publications please direct me to it.
Best,
Jenn
