Dear HCP dataset team,

I’m now working with the SSAGA restricted access data and regarding that would like to ask:

Can you provide/do you have any special legend/Dictionary file for the SSAGA questionnaire? I didn’t find it in the general dictionary file (except the several opened variables)

Thanks a lot for the ansfwrt,

 Best regards,

Evgenii Shvedovskii

Hi Evegenil,
One of the documents I sent before, HCP_SSAGA_Distribution_Sept2017.docx  shows the questions asked in the instrument for each variable. Many of the questions use skip logic depending on the participant's answers that the context for the variables is helpful to see. Let me know if you need me to send it to you again.

Best,
Jenn

The HCP-YA SSAGA instrument text (serves as data dictionary) for accessing participant demographics, mental health, alcohol, tobacco, and drug use is now available in the HCP-Young Adult 2025 Files tab on BALSA. Raw item-level data is available in the Files tab with Restricted Access. Review the Restricted access terms at Restricted Access Data Use Terms and Application and apply by clicking the Fill out Electronic Application link.

Best,
Jenn

Thanks a lot for the answer. I got it. Am I right that you used not complete SSAGA questionnaire, but some selected questions?
Or some specific version of SSAGA?

I compared to this version:

Hi Evgenii,
Yes, we did not ask every question of the SSAGA (you will see skips in the numbering for the variables), but we did ask most questions for each section. This instrument was completed by phone before the subject's visit for additional assessments and imaging.

Best,
Jenn

Hi Jenn,

Thanks for the clarification! And the last (maybe the last))) question is:

Im asking because the coding of variables differs but the questions are relatively the same as I see

Best,
Evgenii

Hi Evgenil,
HCP-YA used the COGA/SSAGA-IV from July 2005, which is an updated version of the SSAGA I from 1991 that you cite in dbGaP.

Best,
Jenn
