The Gym Supervisor supports Hopkinton Parks and Recreation’s mission to enhance community recreation and well-being by overseeing weekend gym operations. This position ensures that all programs and community activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental and school policies. The Supervisor serves as the on-site representative for Parks and Recreation during weekend gym use, providing exceptional customer service, maintaining facility safety, and supporting volunteers and participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee weekend facility operations, including scheduling, gym setup, program support, and coordination with school custodial staff.
Provide on-site supervision to ensure participant safety, rule compliance, and proper facility use by all groups.
Deliver professional and courteous customer service, responding promptly to participant and coach inquiries or concerns.
Monitor facility conditions, address cleanliness and safety issues, and report maintenance needs.
Maintain communication with coaches, custodial staff, and department administrators to ensure smooth operations.
Promote and represent Hopkinton Parks & Recreation programs, fostering positive community engagement.
Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the overall success of the department.
Qualifications
Experience in recreation, facility supervision, or customer service recommended; municipal or school setting experience preferred.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in indoor recreational facilities (Hopkinton Public School gymnasiums). The position requires standing, walking, light lifting (up to 25 lbs.), and weekend availability.
