The Town of Hopkinton is seeking a part-time (up to 19 hours/week) Food Service Worker

Hourly Salary Range:  $15.00 - $24.00, depending on qualifications

Typical Schedule: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, 3 to 4 days/week 

Flexible schedule to be finalized with selected candidate


Under the direction of the Senior Services Director and the Head Chef, this position functions independently, referring problems to the supervisor only when clarification or interpretation of policy or procedure is required. Duties include maintaining quality, sanitation, and safety standards, preparing and serving meals and sandwiches, and helping as needed with food preparation. Cleans the kitchen, dining area,  and workstation. May assist with loading/unloading of the dishwasher and putting away pots/pans, dishes & utensils. Provides exceptional customer service to Seniors, senior volunteers, and others participating in the department's meal programs. Helps to monitor food supplies. Ensures that supplies are stored appropriately and within required guidelines.  And all other related work as required or as the situation dictates.


QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet the following to be considered qualified for this position:


  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment, materials, and procedures used in food preparation, food safety, and kitchen maintenance.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks at one time with frequent interruptions.

  • Identify needs for repairs to kitchen equipment.

  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.

  • Organizational, interpersonal/collaborative communication, resourcefulness, and discretion.

  • Time management and customer service skills.

  • Moderate physical effort required; frequently required to move/transport up to 30 lbs.


Education, Training, and Experience

At least one (1) year of experience in cafeteria or kitchen work. Experience with Seniors preferred.


Required Licensing/Certification: 

ServSafe, CPR, and Allergy Awareness Certifications or ability to certify within sixty (60) days from start date.
