The Town of Hopkinton seeks an Assistant Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer

Under the direction of the Director of Municipal Inspections, the Assistant Building Inspector-Zoning Enforcement Officer enforces all applicable codes and laws including zoning bylaws and conducts plan reviews and issues building permits. Interprets laws, codes and regulations. Conducts inspections including existing buildings/uses and new construction.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma and five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design; two (2) year associate degree in a related field preferred; Experience with zoning regulatory board or enforcement preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to obtain Certification as a Local Building Inspector in accordance with Section 110.R7 of the State Building Code within 18 months of the date of hire required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of Mass. Zoning Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40A) and ability to obtain a working knowledge of Hopkinton’s Zoning Bylaws.
Knowledge of Architectural Access Board Regulations.
General knowledge of the accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation, and safe egress.
Working knowledge of State building codes.
Ability to apply knowledge of Hopkinton’s Zoning Bylaw to Board of Appeals applications.
Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both in writing and orally.
Ability to interpret technical bylaws and assess situations independently in the field; enforce regulations professionally, firmly, respectfully, and impartially.
Ability to perform onsite inspections.
Ability to review plans for conformance with applicable laws and codes.
Skills with Google Suite (Google docs, Google sheets, Gmail, Google Drive), Smartphone or IPad to record inspections.
Excellent customer service skills.
Licensing/Certifications:
A valid U.S. Driver’s License
State Certification as a Local Building Inspector within 18 months of appointment
Commercial, Residential Building Inspector
International Code Council certification as a Residential, Commercial, Energy Efficiency and/or Accessibility, preferred.
