Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife)

Here’s some information from MassWildlife that may be of interest. MassWildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. MassWildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy. Through management of wildlife and habitat, MassWildlife ensures quality outdoor recreational opportunities for hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy the impressive variety of plants, fish, and wildlife found in Massachusetts.

Stock Trout: Kids and families are invited to help MassWildlife stock trout during school vacation week, April 21–24. See the stocking truck, get a closeup look at different species of trout, and learn about fishing opportunities near you. See event locations and times.

Bears: Black bears are emerging from their winter dens and searching for food. Help keep bears wild by taking down bird feeders, feeding pets indoors, and securing garbage and compost. If you own chickens, bees, or livestock, an electric fence is a must. Get tips to prevent problems with bears.

Turkey Problems: Wild turkey breeding season is March–May. During this time, turkeys can display aggressive behaviors towards people—especially in areas where they are being fed. Removing bird feeders and other food sources is the best way to prevent conflicts with turkeys. Get springtime turkey tips.

250th: Learn to Sew: Quilted Cotton Coaster: Sunday, April 12th from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm.

Learn the basics of quilting! It's so easy, you'll make your own quilted coaster in under an hour! Though quilting is an art that can be immensely detailed, the basics are really easy to pick up.  We will be using basic sewing machines. Come try it out and see why it has been a quintessential American art for generations!

This program is for ages 16-adult. This program earns you Sewing Machine Certification, allowing you to attend more advanced sewing classes.

A signed CreatorSpace waiver is required to access this event. If the attendee is 16 or 17 years old, a parent/guardian must sign this waiver before the event starts. This event repeats a previous session. If you attended a previous session, please do not register for this session so that we can serve as many new crafters as possible. Register here.

250th: Songs of the American Revolution: Sunday, April 12th from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Come listen to songs enjoyed by both sides during the American Revolution, when the colonies echoed with marching tunes, ballads, and hymns created to promote either rebellion or loyalty to the crown. Diane wears period clothing and accompanies her singing on authentic instruments.

Folk songs let us see the inner lives of all the people involved, not just the rich and famous. Women, especially, left few records. Diane explores their stories and those of the free and enslaved people who fought on both sides. This program is generously funded by the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation. No registration is required.
