MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX BILLS - DUE MARCH 25TH 2019

This bill is for vehicles, motor cycles and trailers that were registered as of January 1 2019. If you did not receive a bill and think you should have, please call our office. 508-497-9715

  • If you have ALREADY PAID your 2019 Excise Tax bill please disregard this email.

 

  • If your vehicle is LEASED please refer to your leasing company on how your excise bill is paid.

 

  • If you NO LONGER OWN the vehicle you were billed for DO NOT DISREGARD the bill. You must file for an abatement with the Assessors office. Here is what is needed. These documents can be brought into our office by the due date, or emailed to sca...@hopkintonma.gov.

 

  • One of the following (where the vehicle went)

    • Trade in papers (paperwork for the dealer that shows they took your vehicle in trade)

    • Bill of sale (includes Vin #, buyer and seller, and date of sale)

    • Total Loss Letter (from insurance company stating they took the vehicle)

    • Donation Letter or receipt (showing the Vin # and date donated)

    • Moved out of State - New State registration

 

  • And one of the following (where the plates went)

    • Plate Return Receipt

    • New registration showing old plate on new vehicle

 

  • *If we do not have these documents by March 25th you must pay the bill in full and then a check will be issued to you for the difference. If you have any questions please call the Assessors at 508-497-9720

 

Here are the options available for paying your tax bill:

MAILING: send a personal check along with the remittance slip to our lockbox:

ONLINE: pay on our website by going to www.hopkintonma.gov> “Pay My Bill” > “Motor Vehicle Excise” > enter your Bill number and the year 2019

 

**Please note that you will receive confirmation that your taxes are paid. This service is now FREE if you use your checking account. However, fees apply if you use a debit or credit card. Please look at the fees that are charged before continuing.

PERSONAL BILL PAY: please note this is the least reliable option for paying your taxes. If you are using online bill paying through your own bank, always include the BILL NUMBER on the memo line. Do not wait to pay on the due date because you must allow 5-7 days for us to receive the physical check in our office. Have the bank mail the check to:

PAY IN PERSON: You can pay at our office - 18 MAIN STREET in Hopkinton during office hours.  Mon, Wed, Thurs 8:00-4:30 Tuesday 8:00-7:00 and Friday 8:00-2:00. or leave your check and remittance slip in an envelope in our drop off box located to the right of the front door. DO NOT LEAVE CASH IN THE DROP OFF BOX
