A Cultural Evening of Katha & Nrityam
We are delighted to present an event that beautifully blends the depth of Katha Upanyasam (spiritual discourse) and the visual poetry of Nrityam (classical Indian dance). Together, these sacred traditions offer a rich journey into the spiritual, emotional, and artistic essence of Indian culture.
Katha (कथा), meaning story, and Upanyasam, or sacred oration, form an age-old tradition where revered speakers narrate and reflect on epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavata Purana.
Shri Dushyanth Sridhar, our featured speaker, is known for weaving together Vedic wisdom, classical literature, and contemporary relevance—transforming storytelling into a spiritually immersive experience.
Rooted in the Natya Shastra, Nrithyam is the expressive dimension of Indian classical dance. It brings stories to life through bhava (emotion), raga (melody), and tala (rhythm). Whether it's Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, or Odissi, these performances channel devotion and narrative through gesture, expression, and movement.
This evening is more than a performance—it's a moment of connection:
To tradition and timeless wisdom
To community and collective experience
To the divine, through art and storytelling
Whether you're a lifelong rasika or newly exploring India's spiritual and artistic roots, this event will leave your heart full and your mind enriched.
Bring your family, invite friends, and let’s gather to celebrate the stories and rhythms that have inspired generations
With warmth and anticipation,

Dear Friend,
I've received a few thoughtful questions about the upcoming program, and I believe the following details will be helpful and relevant to many in our community:
The storytelling (Ram Katha), with a special focus on the women of the Ramayana, will be delivered in English by Sri Dushyant Sridhar, drawing from Valmiki’s Ramayana as the primary source.
The dance (Nritya) by Vidushi Ramya Ramnarayan is choreographed to classical poetry presented in the original languages of the legendary composers.
The Katha Nrithyam, titled “Ramachandram Bhavayami,” brings to life the stories of the rare and powerful women of the Ramayana—figures of deep strength and spiritual insight. Each is profoundly impacted by Rama’s actions, yet they continue to honor him with unwavering loyalty.
