Aloha Thompson School Faculty, Staff, Students and Stakeholders,

I know that everyone has been anxiously awaiting word about the next dean for the Thompson School, and I would like to thank you for your patience while we engaged in numerous discussions and a second campus visit over the last month.

I am happy to report that Dr. Alex Ortega has accepted (provisional on Board of Regents approval) the position of Dean of the Thompson School.  Pursuant to State law, Dr. Ortega's appointment will be posted on the February 16, 2023 Board of Regents meeting and noticed on the Board agenda on February 10, 2023.  Dr. Ortega's start date will be September 1, 2023 in order to ensure a smooth transition of his research grants and relocation to Hawai'i.

I look forward to working with Dr. Ortega and the Thompson faculty, staff and students to move the School forward to new heights in the years ahead.  I would also like to thank the Search Advisory Committee for their hard work, which resulted in this very successful hire.
