Aloha Aimee, Robin, & Wendy!

Kula is in urgent need of your help to provide written testimony in support of our Lamaku Youth and Family Strengthening Program (Lamaku).  Lamaku is our current after school in community program that was a main component of the Kukalahale Learning project funded by the Native Hawaiian Education Program (NHEP) from 2015-2019.  The program is currently being funded by the City's Grants in Aid (GIA) program.  This is Kula's 1st City GIA.

We need your help to secure a 2nd year of funding from the City GIA.  Councilwoman Carol Fukunaga submitted a proposed amendment to the City's Executive Operating Budget (Bill 20) to provide at least $125k in support of KULA's Lamaku program.  See email below from Councilwoman Fukunaga.  A special meeting of the Budget Committee will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at 9am

Carol Fukunage has noted that, the budget chair is in favor of supporting the amendment with emphasis on broader language "to support educationcollaboration, and program development for the Native Hawaiian community in Papakolea" and not too much attention to the GIA recipient.  An emphasis in your testimony related to the specific work we've accomplished together in any of the three above mentioned areas is greatly appreciated.

Testimony must clearly state: _______ is in support of the proposed amendment to Bill 20 (2020)- Executive Operating Budget for FY 2021 to appropriate $125k for Kula no na Po`e Hawaii to support educationcollaboration and program development for the Native Hawaiian community in Papakolea.

FEEL FREE TO COPY AND PASTE ABOVE LANGUAGE TO QUICKLY SUBMIT TESTIMONY SUPPORT.
IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ADD A COUPLE SENTENCES PERSONAL MANAO --BETTER YET.

We are trying to secure as many letters/testimonies of support by Monday afternoon.  You can submit your testimony online at
http://www.honolulu.gov/ccl-testimony-form.html.  Please note:  the Committee is Budget, the Agenda Item is Bill 20 (2020)-Executive Operating Budget for FY 2021.  Your testimony can be entered into the Comments section.  If you'd rather submit a separate letter,
that's maika`i.  I've attached a template for our community leaders, partners and friends of KULA.  Feel free to revise or re-do entirely.
Attach the file to the "Testimony Attached" section. Please send me a copy of your letter for our files.

Due to the time constraint, please submit your testimony to the City no later than 3pm MONDAY, 5/11/20.  Mahalo.

We'll let everyone know the outcome of the meeting.
On behalf of all of us at KULA and our Papakolea families, mahalo nui.
Stay well.

Aloha ke kahi i ke kahi,
Chantal, Ka'apuni and Meghan
