⚠️ Hidden battery-powered smoke or CO alarm
⚠️ Duct-mounted detector above a vent
⚠️ Forgotten / abandoned alarm from original construction (2019 build)
⚠️ Sealed-battery alarm that cannot be silenced without removal
Hi, hoping someone can help with a mysterious noise in my home. There’s a device in my ceiling (sounds like that) that chirps once an hour. Not fire alarms have been down that rabbit hole. It seems to be transmitting a signal. Could someone help locate it using RF direction-finding techniques? Believe it is an abandoned fire alarm -but no luck with other experts locating it. Thinking out of the box now. It only chirps at night and not every hour - it's periodic.
Electrical & ADT
✅ Confirmed it is NOT an ADT control box
✅ ADT confirmed system is not monitored
✅ Turned off breakers — chirping continued
✅ Electrician checked and ruled out:
Wired smoke alarms ( even removed them all and bought new ones)
CO detectors
Electrical panels
Any visible powered alarm devices
Attic & Ceiling
✅ Handyman searched attic — no alarm found
✅ Searched insulation manually — no device located
✅ Chirp seems to come from ceiling area
✅ Sound appears strongest near / under a vent
Behavior of the Chirp (important clues)
🔊 Chirps about once an hour, not exactly on the hour
🌙 Noticeable at night
🌡️ Stops or reduces when the attic is warmed
❄️ Returns when the attic cools again
