to Hacksburg Announcements

To All:

Hacksburg had a great 2021! Members swiped into the shop 2,472 times (so far!) to work on laser cut lamps, cutting boards, robots, lightsabers, ultrasonic levitators, a desktop laser cutter, and countless other projects. Our membership grew by 22% this year. Across 36 classes and events and 47 group meetings (so far!) we were able to educate the community and introduce members to the equipment in our shop. We engaged with our New River Valley community by hosting and participating in events run by Downtown Blacksburg, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Lightsaber Club at Virginia Tech, the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council, and the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. This year Hacksburg grew our workshop to include a vacuum former, precision knife grinder, Arbitrary Signal Generator, four new servers, another 3D printer, and other small tools to fill out our woodshop and metalshop.

We want to do even more in 2022. All of these new tools were equipment donations by members of the community, some already active at Hacksburg and some finding out about us for the first time. Hacksburg is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, fully funded through membership fees, donations, and grants. Through your support Hacksburg can provide greater opportunities to the community while helping to educate the next generation of inventors and creators.

You can help by supporting our Giving Tuesday campaign. This Giving Tuesday, you can donate to Hacksburg by visiting our Facebook donation campaign (https://www.facebook.com/donate/598983548040179/). If you donate right at 8:00AM, Facebook will be matching 100% of each donation. This matching program runs out really quickly, so anything you can donate right at 8:00AM would be fantastic. Contributions throughout the day all benefit Hacksburg’s mission to provide a community workshop. If you don’t want to donate through Facebook you can use PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=KVUGMTXUKKPAQ), write us a check, or slide hundred-dollar bills under the door. All donations, equipment and monetary, are tax deductible!

Donations of all sizes help. All donations help us cover operating expenses, from bandsaw blades and sanding belts to 3D printer plastic and even new equipment. Also, please reach out if you’re a company which would like to provide an in-kind donation of equipment, old prototypes, or components.

Sincerely,

The Board Members of Hacksburg
