We are happy to announce that Rendyr has donated an Optic to Hacksburg! Having this portable desktop laser cutter will allow us to work with larger materials, complex projects, and show off the benefits of laser cutting to the public to encourage making. We will receive the machine in the near future. This will be available for Hacksburg members to use at the space, and all the files you've used on our current laser will transfer over, since both machines use LightBurn. Our laser cutter class will cover the specifics of both machines. Some things, like the ability to
tile the machine for large jobs, will be covered in a more advanced laser cutter class or ad-hoc for anyone who wants to use that ability.
The end of the Rendyr crowdfunding campaign is later today (Feb 23). We are extremely excited for our neighbors who have raised $721,809 so far. This means that if you want to buy a machine for yourself, now is the time to do it! There are a number of stretch goals listed on the Kickstarter page (
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rendyr/optic-the-portable-laser-cutter/) which are exciting, including a rotary add-on! I wish them the best of luck finalizing the campaign and shipping the product.
