After using ferric chloride to etch brass or pcbs, there is copper chloride sludge which is toxic enough that it should not just be discarded.

I have tried calling the PSA and they had no idea where I should take it. Does anybody here know where I can safely dispose of it?

Hello,
I have an appointment with MRSWA on the 11th at 10:45am to drop off some long fluorescent tubes if you'd like to come with me. I just called MRSWA and spoke with the receptionist and they said I could bring additional toxic materials.
Call me if you'd like to join me. 704.651.9936

If you have the interest & space and time, you could take a lesson from PM refiners that use a "stock pot" system to process their waste down to the most safe form. Depending on volume, a 5 gallon bucket with some iron scrap in it should be enough to cement out the copper metal, but it won't be fast.

Here is the meat of the process, https://youtu.be/IfxGgrWrYwo?t=620

For those who have never seen this type of thing, this video has an example of what it looks like when copper cements out from copper nitrite, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAK_gLXrTzY

Chemistry is really magic.

Thanks everyone for all the advice!

I haven't done the etching yet. I'll call MRSWA to see about making an appointment.
