Traveling to Hawaii Via a Ship?

I am taking a cruise to Hawaii in Oct. and I am not finding anything re cruise lines. I only find info re flying in. If anyone has taken their guide on a Hawaii cruise that doesn't start in Hawaii, please let me know how you dealt with clearing your guide. Thanks! Margie

Margie, I’m in Hawaii presently with my Guide. Hawaii is very strict about ANY plant or animal coming here. Go to Dept of Agriculture, rabies Quarantine. There is a section that specifically deals with Guide Dogs. That will tell you what you need to know. If your first stop is not Honolulu, it’s going to cost a lot more. That’s considered entry to “Neighbor Islands”.. it’s all doable as long as you plan ahead.

I have gone there and I have traveled to Hawaii previoutly with my guides. I always fly in. There is nothing on the web site re cruising in to Hawaii. We are not arriving in Honolulu for several days. We are cruising to several islands. So, the issue is not what I need to do, I understand what I need to do, but I fail to understand how to get cleared to leave the shop for the several islands we will visit first. I can't leave my dog in my estate room so if I do not get cleared at the first island, I will not be able to visit manyof the islands. Thanks, Margie

The cruise lines will always tell you that she cannot leave your dog in the state room. However, I have had situations on two separate occasions where I was granted permission. I’m not suggesting that this is the way to go. Just wanted to give you some information that is not decided ahead of time, but both times the decision was made with crew on the ship.
