When an Arizona woman was being segregated by officials from the local division of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) due to the presence of her service dog, we contacted AYSO and the Bullhead City attorney who leases their field to AYSO. We helped them understand that segregating someone because of the presence of a service dog and retaliating against them by applying different standards of treatment to their children violated both Arizona state laws and the ADA’s provisions prohibiting separate benefits. Both AYSO and the City of Bullhead are now complying with state and federal laws, and the woman is enjoying her daughter’s soccer games on equal terms with other parents. |
