Dear ACB community,

The rideshare company Lyft recently reached a settlement in Minnesota that will have national implications. College student Tori Andres asked the Minnesota Department of Human Rights to investigate Lyft after Lyft drivers repeatedly denied rides to Tori and her guide dog Alfred. The Department found that the denials amounted to violations of the state’s Human Rights Act. The settlement includes provisions for Lyft drivers across the nation to be trained in the rights of passengers with disabilities, warnings that drivers could be deactivated if they deny rides to people with service animals or wheelchairs, and that Lyft will follow up on every complaint of ride refusal. The Minnesota Department of Human Rights will monitor Lyft for compliance with these and other terms of the settlement for three years.
