Hello, We are expecting 65 puppies between December and January, ready to start their journey toward becoming guide dogs. Before these puppies can start formal training, they need volunteers to welcome them into their homes for one year and teach them the foundational skills they'll need to eventually guide someone who is blind or low vision. Puppy raisers are the beginning of every success story at Leader Dog. They give our puppies love, structure and new experiences that shape who they become. Their impact reaches far beyond that first year; they help someone gain independence. No prior experience is necessary – just time, patience and a willingness to help. Leader Dog supports all puppy raising volunteers with expert guidance from a dedicated puppy counselor, starter supplies like toys and a leash and online training modules with community support. We also offer flexible options like co-raising between households or dividing the year into two six-month terms, making it accessible for families, retirees and busy professionals. The difference a puppy raiser makes can last a lifetime. Manny, a Leader Dog client, shared, “Leader Dog Ivy is really going to help me walk with confidence. That’s something I noticed with my last dog. I’m able to get places faster, with more confidence. Other than being my best friend, she’s going to help me go through life as seamlessly as possible.
