I enrolled in a Pro account for the benefit of our congregation. Can someone else schedule meetings on this account without giving them my username and password?

That is a feature of enterprise accounts. You can set up meetings yourself and invite people, but you can't delegate alternate hosts or scheduling privileges outside your account.

That's what I thought. So I would have to schedule and attend all meetings? Sorry for multiple replies. I didn't reply to all.

You could set it so that people could join the meeting before the host enters. That is going to be a little bit less secure, but depending on the reason for setting it up that way you might be able to get away with it.

I have set up meetings and then transferred the host privileges to someone else.

Thanks all for your replies. I am going with the co-hosting option while I schedule the meetings.

Funny, I'm doing this right now, but I just created a Google group with several people that might be leading meetings (Pastor, teachers, council chair, etc) and made the zoom account under the group. Then we just need to make sure only one meeting at a time is happening (not a problem in our small church/school). We will have to share credentials, but that shouldn't be a problem.

For your specific issue, adding others as alternate hosts should work so you don't have to be at each meeting.

Out of curiosity, do you guys have a GSuite for Nonprofits account?

If so, why use Zoom when you could use Hangouts Meet and it would be more secure and wouldn't cost you anything?

Yes we do. I was interested in going that way, but there were those who wanted to use Zoom so I haven't played around with Hangouts Meet.

Other than price, do you have anything specific you want to share about Meets?

I've use Meets a couple of tunes to record videos for my class. I like how it worked for that. Good screen sharing,  puts a little video of you in the corner, also. Haven't used it for a live meeting, though.

Mostly, those who use Zoom do so because of all the marketing hype. You can put fancy backgrounds behind yourself. You can also display all the participants in a grid, including the host (but you can accomplish this in Hangouts with a new plugin too).

Hangouts is integrated into the rest of your Google tools. You schedule Google Calendar meetings and can schedule a Meet right in your appointment. It also includes a phone number and security code for those to participate who don't have webcam access.

Example scenario: Let's say your congregation needs to conduct a call meeting, but you cannot get together due to Coronavirus....

You can schedule the meeting in your calendar and send invites to all members concerned. During the meeting you can distribute your call list in the form of a Google Doc with protected, read-only access, limiting their ability to copy or download the document. You can then create a ballot in Google Forms for which a link can be distributed right in the chat during the meeting. It will automatically tabulate all the votes for you live. Once it's all done you just delete the ballots file and the call list file and none of the participants have access to it after.

Discussion can be had either verbally or thought chat right in the Meet interface. You can have 250 participants at one time.

Everything can be managed right there through your Google account. It's all integrated.

Other congregations I've heard who are going something like this try to cobble together something by using Zoom for their meeting, sending out call lists as PDF files, and then try taking votes in their videos by way of raising hands, etc. It's just not as smooth as integrated as using your existing Google system.

The ratings for the iOS app is 1.6. Seems quite clunky. Probably will stay with Zoom for now.

Zoom has a really good interface on their web app, the desktop app and their mobile app. Google seems to be way behind in that regard.

I think Google has a way to go to catch up.

One of the biggest reasons I primarily use Meet is that it is so nicely tied into Google Calendar which our organization uses exclusively.  It is also very simple for novices to start from scratch.  It has all the features I would want to use as a teacher: screensharing, recording, grid view, and chatting.  The Grid View Google Meet extension has been a really nice addition to my experience.

If you do a little research you will find that it used to have a 4.7 rating but TikTok started a campaign asking people to go to the app store and give Meet a low rating. Also, students are telling other students to rate it low in the app stores in an effort to try and get out of having to do schooling at home. Many of the "reviews" are people just clicking a star and not leaving any comments.

What is it about the Zoom interface that you think is so much further ahead than others, including Google's? What is it you think you can do with Zoom that you cannot with others?

It's no different than Zoom. You need an account to create a meeting but not necessarily to participate in one.
