Hi WELSTech-ers –

I received a e-mail request for help from Bill Otto at St. John's, Baraboo, WI. I had referred him to a WELSTech post on setting up digital signage with a chromebit (https://welstech.wels.net/2017/08/22/digital-signage-google/), and the setup was working fine for him over the weekend. This morning all of the school chromebooks

"now have a plain grey screen and the words "no policy received".  They won't turn off and can't be reset so they're dead in the water."

He goes on to say ...

"I know it's from enrolling the chromebit and downloading the sign builder app as shown in the webinar.  I'm guessing there's someplace I need to go in device management to somehow help the student's devices not be affected by sign builder"

I'll do some googling on this, but I'd also appreciate it if any of you have advice to share on resolving it. Thanks!

I usually see the "no policy received" screen on my Chromebits when they can't connect to WiFi.  This problem could be coming from a variety of sources, but I'm sure it goes back to whatever policy changes were made.  I would recommend that he contact Google Support through his Admin portal for some help on this.  They are really helpful and knowledgeable.

As a stop-gap measure, while the Chromebooks are starting up, there should be a boot screen that says you can press CTRL-ALT-S to cancel kiosk mode.  If you do this, you should be able to log in normally.
