Video Surveillance Ideas

Could anyone recommend a video surveillance solution in the 5-10 camera range that works well and is cost-effective?

Unifi makes a pretty decent system that is cost effective. I've had more luck running my own server with their NVR software than buying an NVR from them, though I see they have a newer one that I haven't tried.

For 5-10 cameras, the Unifi line along with a Gen 2 Cloud Key Plus (https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-protect-nvr/products/unifi-cloudkey-plus) as the recording device would probably serve you well. Even though it can support more cameras than that, the recording capacity can limit how long it retains the recordings. For more cameras, you would want to move to the Unifi UNVR, which you can add your own hard drives to.

I'd second the UniFi recommendation as well. We have been using the cameras on MLC's campus and are quite happy.

I'm going to echo the Unifi recommendations.  I have them at home and at our church/school paired with a UDM Pro instead of the NVR.  Great options for different cameras, mounting options and monitoring.  Only drawback is the video can't be stored elsewhere (cloud, NAS) yet.
