The code.org free elementary school curriculum workshop is happening in Suwanee, Monday, June 1, 10:30 - 5:30.

Unfortunately, I'm noticing now it is offered only to teachers.  Perhaps a teacher from Sagamore would like to check it out?

From what I've gathered of the curriculum offering, they make it incredibly easy for anyone to pick up to help students get started (even without the workshop).  I think any willing adult, regardless of technical prowess, can introduce a great coding foundation by simply following the free curriculum offered at code.org .

Hi Dave,

This morning at the computer club party, you were telling us about the local event at code.org
Could you please send me the link? I'd like to see what it is.

Thanks,
Raj

Mrs. Stein had one or two rising fifth grade parents in mind as possible candidates to keep the club going.  I think she was going to try to get in touch with them and see if they had any interest and time availability.

After doing the club for a year, I think it would be ideal to have two parents who can work together to run the meetings.  One to lead the meetings and one to help out when kids get stuck.  It really helped having Mr. Barnes as a sponsor as well.

Following these pre-defined agendas and activity plans I think it would require minimal technical knowledge on the part of the club leaders, maybe just a general comfort and familiarity with computers.

Although I won't be at Sagamore next year (returning the following year when our daughter starts kindergarten), if we could find a parent or two to run with this I'd be willing to help launch the first few meetings and get things started.

It would be great if we could establish Sagamore as a school where kids get a really solid start in technology.  The computer lab is such a great resource.

That was my impression as well. The curriculums for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade look very well prepared.
