The second STEM committee meeting of the year was on Wednesday. Thanks to Nat Strohl, Karen Weller, Jennifer Drew, and Dave Barker for attending.
1. Many new programs (STEM stars, STEM buddies) and new clubs (Coding Club, Lego Robotics Club, STEM club, Garden club) are starting up soon. Look for more information in the Thursday folders about how you can help out with these groups.
2. The science and STEM lab clean out and re-organization is going great so far. Feel free to drop by on Tuesday morning at 8am to help Karen Weller, Jenny Coursey, and Gina Brock with this important task.
3. Lara Baldwin (
lara.baldwin@gmail.com) needs more help with the STEM
lab and hallway painting project. An update will be coming soon with the revised painting schedule.
4. Business Partners - Part of the STEM certification process is a requirement for outside businesses to come into the school to make presentations, share information or expertise, or otherwise engage with the children in the classrooms. The expectation would be for a business to visit once or twice a year to speak with one class, a grade level, or possibly even the whole school. Many large companies already have established educational outreach programs for just such a need. If your company is in a STEM-related field please contact the appropriate department or person and get them in touch with Ms. Taylor, Ms. Rhinehart, or Ms. Lambert. The school will have much better luck finding businesses to participate by using our current contacts than if we just cold call companies (although that will be the next step). This is a very important aspect of certification and is a high priority right now.
Thanks for all of your enthusiasm and participation.
