Sorry for the delay in responding to those of you who reached out to me about helping with developing and setting up the Foundation. I have been swamped at work and did not make this a priority. In any event, I am ready to get this ball rolling again. Given that the summer is approaching, I wanted to see if we could schedule a meeting at my home in the next couple of weeks to discuss the by-laws and to brainstorm nominees for the initial Board of Directors. Please be thinking about people in and outside of the Sagamore Hills Elementary school community who have certain skills that would be beneficial to a foundation board, e.g., accounting, grant writing, fundraising, development, etc. If you know any of these folks, please encourage them to join us in these initial development stages.
To refresh, here is what I have done so far: Registered the Sagamore Hills Foundation, Inc, with the Secretary of State; Filed the Articles of Incorporation for the Sagamore Hills Foundation, Inc. with the SOS; published a Notice of Filing AOI with the Dekalb County legal newspaper (The Champion); and obtained an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS for the Foundation.
I believe the next step is writing the bylaws and establishing an initial BOD. I will have some “sample” by-laws when we meet and if anyone else has resources, please let me know or bring them along.
I am happy to open up my home on any of the following evenings for a meeting: May 9, May 11 or May 17. Please let me know ASAP which of those dates would work best for each of you so I can figure out on which date we can get the most participation.
