Purpose of Ballot

 

There have been varying interpretations of the EV Guidelines on the inclusion of values in the serialNumber attribute. This ballot explicitly specifies how to encode Registration Numbers, Dates of Formation, and other values in the serialNumber attribute. Additionally, the ballot mandates a standard encoding for date values encoded within this attribute.

 

The following motion has been proposed by Corey Bonnell (DigiCert) and endorsed by Ben Wilson (Mozilla) and Dimitris Zacharopoulos (HARICA).

MODIFY the " Guidelines for the Issuance and Management of Extended Validation Certificates" ("EV Guidelines") based on Version 2.0.2 as specified in the following redline:

In the definition of the Canonical Date Representation, can we restrict the date to the Gregorian Calendar for all use cases. Or, if other calendar systems can be represented by the date (e.g., Hijiri or Ethiopian), then some sort of designation code should be added to clearly identify the system used.
