Should we consider a gradual sunset of SC-084?

Hey folks!

Given the fantastic work described here: https://letsencrypt.org/2026/02/18/dns-persist-01.html, should we consider sunsetting the method approved in SC-084

I think this is a better way of solving the problem that SC-084 aimed to solve.

If I recall correctly, there's a couple of CAs that have already implemented this, so maybe sunsetting is a bad idea, but I wanted to at least start the conversation on it.

Personally, I think its fine to keep around. Not everyone will want a persistent authorization for their domain, and I don't see any problems with the SC-084 method that would warrant wanting to deprecate it.
