Dear Greenplum user,

We are looking for advice.

We are working with Greenplum opensource 6.19.0 and working on our capacity planning, we have realized we need more storage.

Currently we are using RAID 5 with a net capacity of 35TB/datanode and we have 4 datanodes.
Primaries and mirror are in the same logical volume (/data)
No problems on memory reported, so we were thinking of enlarging the /data volume to 70TB net.

Have any of you gone through this approach before?

Would it be better to expand using more nodes? That would be more expensive of course.

Please advise,

Thanks a lot in advance,

Its possible to expand the discs, should not be an issue.

As all change operations I recommend taking a backup just to be safe.

You can add more nodes and expand the cluster as well. The problem of adding only disk is that you might end up with more data than you can process start to have performance issues.

Remember that all servers needs to be the same configuration for expansion.
