Greenplum Benchmarks

Hi,

  I try to do some benchmark on gp, my question is:

 1. Which benchmark  tool would be better ,TPC-H or TPC-DS, and why?

 2. Do i need to change the sql to fit the best practices for gp, for example use AO storage + Column Oriented Storage, define distribute key and so on?

​1. It dependents on what you want from the tests. TPC-H and TPC-DS focus on different use cases. You can make decision according to your own use case.

2. For TPC-DS testing, recommend Jon Roberts' version https://github.com/pivotalguru/TPC-DS

DS will highlight the strength of Greenplum's optimizer because there are more complex SQL in it than TPC-H

I use TPC-DS: https://github.com/pivotalguru/tpc-ds tool, but errors occur as follow:

ERROR:  quicklz compression not supported (quicklz_compression.c:28) 

then i find

QuickLZ compression is available only in the commercial release of Pivotal Greenplum Database

Is that ture?

 

And if then  GP OSS have plan to support it ?

ZLIB will probably work as it is part of the original Postgres code.
