Hi,

Do we have greenplum performance stats against other data warehouse technologies Teradata, Netezza any other and based on some reference hardware and dataset.

You can't do an apples to apples comparison of Teradata or Netezza with Greenplum because those other two products only run on proprietary hardware.  TPC-DS is the common tool to create a benchmark metric but the performance depends on the hardware.

TPC-DS or any other numbers with reference architecture would do. Do we such numbers for Greenplum 4.6 and Greenplum 5.0

Its very hard to do a honest comparison.... Basically they are all MPP so what you will be looking at is cost performance as you can always add more nodes to reach the performance you need.

All of them will do the job if you are looking for regular SQL/BI performance. Greenplum will definitely be cheaper and more flexible as its an open source SW solution that runs on commodity HW or in the Cloud and will not lock you in.

I would not waste time on TD or NZ this days... specially on NZ... but, of course, I am a suspect...  :)

I agree with Luis . All of them behave in a similar way . What makes GreenPlum stand out is it's  fully ANSI-SQL compliant built on Commodity hardware  which comes with cost effectiveness  . If you looking  for serious analytics GreenPlum can be handy as it supports Apache madlib, full text search using gptext and solr instances .

Thanks ,

Hi,

I think, businesses are not really looking for honest comparisons between two products because these are very difficult to do without support from vendors and lot of cost involved in arranging hardware/software. They are looking for realistic  performance benchmarks or baseline so that they can make business decisions.

This is what we are trying to do. Comparing two different DWH DB's with slighthly different hardware one which has been optimized already, other is being optimized(Greenplum) to see whether it is fit of purpose which includes performance, ability to optimize the system configurations, stability, meeting business requirements like multi-tenancy and data science etc.

So, if the vendors and community share their performance benchmarks then it gives others food for thought, motivation to use the software in a better, be more creative and in the end will lead to higher and higher adaptation and community involvement.

Hi Hassan ,

I found what you are looking for in one of my old documents , which were tested around 2010 with DCA V1 .

Now Greenplum has made significant improvements with DCA V2 ,V3 and may other databases as well . But here is the old comparison stats.

Sandeep

Hi,

This is a great table, which can be used as reference when doing some analysis to get some baseline.
Do we have such comparison available in recent documents for DCA version 3 ?
