The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announces $600,000 in funding is available under the Watershed Council Grant Program. Funds can be used for general organizational support as well as conservation and educational activities. Watershed Councils and Watershed Alliances established under State law and entities with 501(c)(3) status as well as local units of government, tribal entities, colleges, and universities are eligible for this funding. Individual grants are capped at $40,000 and should be completed in a 12 month timeframe. No audit or local match is required.

Funding priorities are projects that, in no particular order, will:

  • Support the administration, capacity building, or staff training for eligible entities to increase the organization’s operational stability.
  • Purchase equipment and supplies to support new or existing efforts.
  • Develop proposals or proposal elements for other funding opportunities.
  • Leverage local watershed planning efforts.
  • Develop and distribute education and outreach materials relevant to environmental conservation or restoration.
  • Assess the feasibility of or result in the adoption of water quality ordinances.
  • Make progress toward reducing barriers to surface water protection or restoration at the local level.

Full details are included in the Request For Proposals posted on the Nonpoint Source Program website along with instructions for applying. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Selected projects will be awarded funding in the spring of 2026.

A webinar will be held Tuesday October 28, 2025, at 2:00 pm to explain this funding opportunity.  EGLE staff will present details of the grant program, the application process, and to answer questions from the audience. The webinar is free, but registration is required.

To register, please visit the Zoom Webinar Registration page.

Additional information is available at the NPS Program page. Questions can be addressed to your local Nonpoint Source District staff or to me.

Good Luck!

Bob
