Hi All
For now, this mailing list is being closed down. No future development is likely for the Grase Hotspot from myself, and if anyone wants to fork it, they can do so but will need to provide their own platform for support, e.g. Github issues.
I want to thank everyone that's been part of the Grase Hotspot journey with me over many many years. This project was started out of a need more than 15 years ago, in a place that had limited internet access, as a way to provide restricted access to the limited internet. I have enjoyed sharing my code, and seeing all the places that it has been used around the world.
I am finally taking the mailing list down as there are costs associated with me having a Google Workspace account to have access to Google Groups with a custom domain. I have preserved the mailing list archives at
https://mailing-list-archive.grasehotspot.org/ using an extract from the Google Group. As it was not made clear to everyone before joining the group that there are public archives and your email may be visible to the world, I have attempted to mask the email addresses in the archives. If you wish for your full email to be visible in the archives (some people are ok with this), please let me know and I can update the masking code to reflect that. If you find your email unmasked anywhere and you want it masked, please also let me know and I'll attempt to fix it.
As for the Hotspot packages apt repo's. I am likely to take them down shortly. Given that all the supported versions of Ubuntu are past EOL, it is not wise for me to leave the repositories running forever, as that encourages people to try and install old software without security updates.
If you're still running a hotspot and want to let me know, I'd love to hear from you. I haven't had a hotspot running for many years now, and so hearing where it's still active would be of interest to me.
Again, thanks everyone for being part of the journey.
Tim
