Hello, thanks for your work on this great hotspot manager. I've been playing around with setting static IP's and went to see what chilli was saying from the debug and got this error:

options.c: 573: 13 (Permission denied) could not save to /var/run/chilli.6187.cfg.bin

main-opt.c: 1228: 0 (Debug) could not save configuration options!

coova-chilli[6187]: options.c: 180: could not generate configuration (/var/run/chilli.6187.cfg.bin), sleeping one second

Everything still seems to work ok although if I change any settings in /etc/chilli/config it doesn't seem to take affect. Thanks for your time.

Maybe I'm coming at this the wrong way. Is there a better way to play with chilli other than editing the /etc/chilli/config file? I haven't quite figured out how grase is configured to change the chilli configuration as I have yet to make any of my own changes stick.
Thanks,

Darren

Well I guess I'm alone on this. I really like the look and feel of this but can't seem to get rid of the chilli errors. Going to move onto radiusdesk.

Hi Darren

I don't get to the mailing list as much as I'd like.

It sounds like you are editing the config directly. The config file is overridden by the Grase package. However you should be able to edit it.
Permission denied sounds like you are running Chilli as a user that does't have permission to those areas. The Chilli packages I make specifically run Chilli as root, otherwise it's prone to break.

You can also use MySQL to return SOME chilli attributes back to Chilli at startup, which should include static ip's.

Can you show us the changes you have tried making, and what you intend them to do?

Tim

You edited the /etc/hosts file. Return
The file to its original form just after installing grase.

Thanks,
Lucas.

etc/hosts file is unedited

Just did a complete reinstall on a virtual box image. Got the same error
"coova-chilli[6187]: options.c: 180: could not generate configuration (/var/run/chilli.6187.cfg.bin), sleeping one second"

a discussion on another forum leads me to believe it has to do with the permissions on the var/run folder
it was suggested to create a symlink in usr/local/ for var/run but that still did not remove the error

I had a similar problem and it kept recurring until I reedited my /etc/hosts and it worked. If you read the error message you will realise it is having a problem initializing eth1 or the port chilli is going to create tun0 on. The interface is not coming up and thus tun0 cannot be started. Thus it cannot write to /var/run. In your case it could be related to how you have configured and bridged your network interface and the virtualbox interface. Try to see which interfaces are up.

Thanks,
Lucas
