Good afternoon! There is nothing like being in a school hours before a holiday break. The excitement is in the air!

Free Throw Contest

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring their 30th annual free throw contest in the gymnasium on Sunday, December 14 following the 11am Mass. This fun event is open to all children ages 9-14. The winners of the local contest then advance to a District, Regional, and State Level contest.

Thanksgiving Break

There are no classes next week. Enjoy this time with your family.

Giving Tree

Since 2015, Saint Andrew Church and School has partnered with Saint Mary of the Lake and St. Thomas of Canterbury, with a Christmas service project through a Giving Tree.  Saint Andrew has helped students ranging from Pre-K thru 8th grade stay warm over the cold, winter, Chicago months.  The Giving Trees will be located and stocked with ornaments in the back of the Church and in the School after Thanksgiving.  Each ornament will include the child's name, grade and gender in order to make shopping easy.  Saint Andrew families will be able to select these ornaments off the trees and begin their holiday shopping.  We will announce future deadlines in the coming weeks.

Students of Service

Our community never ceases to amaze me.  The student council food drive brought in 1,510.5 lbs of food and several gift cards for the Common Pantry! The Common Pantry, located on Lincoln Avenue, serves the local community by providing assistance to over 1,000 households a month. A big shout-out to the families of Saint Andrew, the student council, and their moderators. Thank you for making a difference.

Parents' Night Out

It was nice to see so many parents enjoy a night out. Thank you to the volunteers, organizers, and RVP for this fun night. Over $1200 was generated for the Teacher Christmas Bonus (opening soon!).

Picture Retakes

We will hold picture retakes on Thursday, December 4.  If your child plans to retake their photo, they will need to bring their original package back to the front office.  If your child was absent, they will have their photo taken this day.

Tree Lighting

You are invited to join us on Saturday, November 29 at 5:00 PM on the turf lot for our first Tree Lighting Ceremony. This simple but joyful event is a beautiful way for us to come together, welcome the Advent season, and share in the light and hope it brings. Please stop by, sip some hot cocoa, and help us kick off this special time of year as a Saint Andrew community. We would love to celebrate with you!

Advent Wreath Blessing

Saint Andrew Parish will continue the tradition of decorating our household Advent wreaths with fresh greenery and a blessing of wreaths after the 9:00am Mass on Sunday, November 30. Wreaths are available for purchase and can be picked up during the blessing in the gymnasium. Wreaths from the past year can be brought back to be refreshed and prepared for the season ahead.

Novena to Saint Andrew

Your children are receiving a novena card with a prayer on it to be said during the Saint Andrew Novena from November 22 to November 30.  A novena is a period of private or public prayer repeated for nine consecutive days to make a specific petition in preparation for a feast day. In this case, the novena is to prepare for the feast of Saint Andrew on November 30. The novena card has a QR code on it, which can be used to hear a recording of the prayer said daily by a Saint Andrew staff member. You can also find the recording and the novena prayer itself at https://standrew.org/post/novena-to-saint-andrew-2025/

Celebrating Sunday

Here is a great conversation starter on your way to or from Mass: Celebrating Sunday.  Thank you, Mr. Heimann.

As we enter this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to thank you for the trust you place in us each day. It is truly a privilege to partner with you in educating your children and to be a part of your family’s journey at Saint Andrew. Your support, kindness, and commitment to our community make our school stronger, and I am deeply grateful to work alongside you.

Wishing you and your families a joyful and restful Thanksgiving.
