Hey everyone,

I'm a newbie and learning the tutorials that come with Golaem's documentation but I can't render; no matter which renderer I'm using!
I've tested sample scenes with both renders and all are functioning fine. But soon as it comes to a Golaem scene, major issues!
My choices are V-Ray and Mental Ray, but I prefer Vray to render with.

Vray (sometimes it says the render region is too small when infact I'm not even using render region!)
// Error: line 1: Exception [module=1] : Rendering region (64,192)-(128,256) //
// Error: line 1: Exception [module=1] : Rendering region (64,128)-(128,192) //
// Error: There was a fatal error rendering the scene. //
// Error: Fatal error rendering image. //
// Error: line 1: Exception [module=1] : Rendering region (128,128)-(192,192) //

Mental Ray

I've tried practically everything - fresh installs, different computers, default install directories, etc.
I can render one frame fine with MR but batch render? Forget it.

Please help!

Hi Gerard,

Which V-Ray and Golaem Crowd version are you using?

Cheers,

Alex

Ok, that's what I thought.

For V-Ray:
 - The default v-ray procedural is for V-Ray 3. You need to manually copy/paste the v-ray2.4 procedural after install (see http://golaem.com/content/doc/golaem-crowd-documentation/changing-installed-rendering-plugin-version)

For Mental Ray:
 - There is a bug in the current version that prevent batch render to work when there is a Locomotion or Motion behavior in your scene (I know it sound silly but it's true...). It will be fixed in the version released next week. In the meantime, you can just create a copy of your scene, remove every behavior (remove the crowdbehaviors group from the outliner) and launch the batch render.

Cheers,

Alex

Oh you are a genius!
Thank you so much!
You have made my week!
I could render out the tutorial scenes just fine! Such a relief.

...except when I create my own scene, my Vray renders come out black?
I tried deleting the crowdProxyVRay and reapplying a render proxy but still turning out black.

did you export the simulation cache?

can you check the render logs and send it to us?

there is also a rendering faq here: http://golaem.com/content/doc/rendering-faq

Well now I'm at the computer I went to try what you suggested but has my demo licence expired?
I can't get anything to work when creating a new scene; an error about cannot find the procedure for anything I click on.

// Error: line 1: Cannot find procedure "glmCrowdEntityTypeNodeCmd". //

I've tried re-installing it a few times now and made sure everything was deleted...but it's still presenting the same error!
I don't understand, without reason it's just started playing up.

Hi Gerard,

Are you sure you are launching Maya from the Golaem launch script? you can find more details about it here http://golaem.com/content/doc/golaem-crowd-documentation/windows

Cheers,

Hey Sallu,
Found the problem was the plug-in wasn't loading! Thank you!

But now the problem is, can I re-install the demo?
I tried to create a new license after re-installing but there was an error and now I can't use it.

Hi Gerard.

Yes that's what I was trying to explain, sorry if it was not clear enough.
I added a section about that in our new quick start: http://golaem.com/content/doc/golaem-crowd-documentation/quick-start

We should release Golaem Crowd 4 tomorrow, which kind of reset your right to generate an evaluation, so do not hesitate to ask for an evaluation again!

Cheers,

Alex
