Hi everyone,

I got a issue, and I dont' understand it. I created my crowd using golaem 4.0.2, in Maya 2015 and everything works fine, loaded successfully vray shaders, create a vray proxy, but when I finally try to render nothing appears, and the following alert appear :
"# Error: There was a fatal error building the scene for V-Ray. #" ...
I'm using Vray adv 3.05.03, and I don't know why it is not working. Then I decided to export my simulation to 3d max 2015 for rendering, but again, another problem, I just can't found the 3ds max render attributes, to export.
Please help me ! :(

Thanks!
(and sorry for my bad english, i'm french)

Hello Camille,

Is there a reason you are using Vray 3.05.03? Its a beta version of Vray which is not supported by Golaem.
Is it possible for you to update?

Golaem for 3dsmax is only supported with Golaem 4.1

Cheers,

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

And thanks for the quick answer! Hmm ok now I understand the problem, I'm so stupid I've didn't check the compatibility between the version, I'm sorry. But thanks, now I know how to get throught my issue. And so, with golaem 4.0.2, there is absolutely no way to export the simulation to 3ds max ..?

Thanks again,
Camille

No worries, it took us a teamviewer with a customer and several headaches to discover this last week ;-)

3dsMax compatibility is only in 4.1 and after.
http://download.golaem.com is your friend (your evaluation license will not suffer)

Cheers,

Alex

Hi,

Yes in fact I upgrade Golaem Crowd to 4.1 and it's working. I have just one last question, how do you setup the environment variable to export to 3ds max? Because I'm not too familiar with this kind of stuff, and the tutorial about that on the golaem website (in the section "rendering from 3ds Max > rendering with V-ray") is pretty difficult to understand. I found the environment variable windows but I don' know what the name of the variable has to be, or even the value. I'll be thankfull if you have a solution for me. Thanks !! :)

Haha, that's why we also wrote an page to help setting environment variables:

Hope that helps,

actually for 3DSMax you only need to set two variables (as said just below the link to the env variable window screenshot)
set PATH=C:\Golaem\GolaemCrowd-4.1-Maya2015\bin;%PATH%
set VRAY30_RT_FOR_3DSMAX2015_PLUGINS_x64=C:\Golaem\GolaemCrowd-4.1-Maya2015\procedurals;%VRAY30_RT_FOR_3DSMAX2015_PLUGINS_x64%

so variables are PATH and VRAY30_RT_FOR_3DSMAX2015_PLUGINS_x64

They should be existing variables, so you only need to edit their values and pre-pend the Golaem related path (!! the end of each value is different for each variable + you need to be careful about using your own golaem crowd and maya version in the path !!)
the %...% in the doc is the scripting way of saying put this value before the existing one, you do not need to report this one if you are setting values in the environment variable window

Cheers,

Alex

PS/ thanks for the feedback about the tutorial, we'd better polish it before sending our press release about the 3dsMax+V-Ray support.

Hi,

Again, thanks for the quick answer. I really appreciate. So I create the two  environment variables, but when I launch 3ds max, a error appear :
"DLL <S:\program Files\autodesk\3ds max 2015\plugins\vrayplugins\vraygolaem2015.dlo> failed to initialize."
.. hmm so I think I'm still lost haha. Do you know where the problem could come from ? still about the environment variable..?

Huge thanks for the help,
Camille

Hi again,

So it's the same problem than the one you had with Maya....
3.00.07 is the beta version of Vray3.0 for Max. Can you update to the stable version ?

Hi,
Oh crap.. really again? I thought this version of Vray was ok.. Hmm I don't think I can change my version of Vray, because my school gave me this one, so t's complicated. Now I think i'm going to render on Maya, it is much more simple haha! Thanks again for the precious help.
