After doing a simulation using the Crowd Rigid Body function, I realized my characters are penetrating through my geometry.
How do I go about fixing/avoiding this?

Hello Mistercrayle,

The interpenetration happens when the collision is detected a little too late. To prevent this increase Golaem substep or as in the tutorial "go inside the maya preference window and under the Settings tab change the Time to 60 fps. This way the collisions will be detected quicker and though will be more accurate. Inside the Time slider Tab change the Playback speed to Real-time 60 fps.As a consequence, divide the Physics Substep, go inside the Physics Locator  and set the Physics Substep to 2."

I hope the above is useful to you.

My settings are set at 60 fps, and I've changed the Physics Substep to 2 before I created this topic.
Please help me.

Hello Mistercrayle,

The scene you send us isn't the one on the screenshot.
By the way the physics are working great in this scene. If you really want your entities to not penetrate the wall at all you may inflate a little the rigid body.

Tell me how that sounds,

I've got the scene you sent back and unfortunately, they are still penetrating through the box.

Hello Mistercrayle,

That's right, they are still penetrating through the box as I didn't change much things in this scene, just put the Golaem substep to 2.

Here is a new scene with a slight inflate on the Rigid Body, the Golaem substep set to 2 and the fps to 60 so are sure the entities are no more penetrating through the box.

If the result still doesn't fits you, maybe you would have to edit the ragdoll physics shapes

As you may see actually the Physics shapes of the crowdman are inside the geometry, the idea would be to make them a little bigger than the geometry .

Please take a look to this tutorial to understand how to edit a character Physics shape and joint limits.

Best regards,

Thomas
