OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS UPDATES
Annual Arts Organization Funding
City Council authorized contracts with the 24 local arts agencies that will receive funding through the OCA’s annual process. Contracts will be sent by the end of October, along with instructions for completing narrative and budget revisions. Organizations must return signed contracts and required revisions before an initial payment can be made. If you have questions, please call 573-874-6386 or e-mail o...@GoColumbiaMo.com.
Small Request Funding
Applications for Small Request funding are being accepted on a rolling deadline and must be submitted to the OCA office no later than two months prior to the project’s start date (i.e., if your project begins on December 12, your application must be received by October 12). Only arts organizations with 501(c)(3) status may apply; if you do not have a 501(c)(3) you may collaborate with an organization that does. Contact the OCA, 573-874-6386, o...@GoColumbiaMo.com, or go to www.GoColumbiaMo.com/Arts for more information and the application form.
Be an Advocate for the Arts!
Consider participating in The Letter Project, led by Missouri Citizens for the Arts. It is a way for citizens to let Governor Jay Nixon know that you care about the arts. MCA hopes to deliver 500 letters to Governor Nixon, asking for budget funding of the ARTS in our state. The Letter Projectprovides an easy way to state WHY the arts are important as well as explains HOW Governor Nixon can support the arts.
In addition, The Letter Project leaves plenty of room for personalization by giving you a frame at the top of the paper to illustrate your talents. If you are a visual artist - use the space to draw an image! It can be a personal representation of your favorite things about Missouri, a colorful self-portrait, or whatever you think will catch the eye of Governor Nixon. Not a visual artist? Are you a musician, writer, or arts appreciator? Fill the space with music notes, thought bubbles, zig-zags, etc. Anything to make your letter stand out. Involve friends, family, organizations to which you belong, anyone who cares about the ARTS. There are also several lines at the bottom of the sheet for you to share your story, name and address. When you are finished with you letter(s), please mail them all (by the end of October) to:

Save the Date! Missouri Arts Council Grant Writing Workshop
The Missouri Arts Council (MAC) is presenting a free grant application workshop that covers basic information on MAC grants, both monthly and annual, including eligibility information, creating an online profile, the application and panel process, preparing support materials and how to address narrative questions. If you have never applied for MAC funding, or seek to improve your grant application, you will benefit from attending this workshop. Note that MAC grants are available only to organizations, not individuals.
