OFFICE of CULTURAL AFFAIRS UPDATES...

Missouri Arts Council Technical Assistance…Interested in applying for Missouri Arts Council Funding? Have a question on a current grant? Staff from the Missouri Arts Council will be “On Location” in Columbia on Wednesday, April 16, to meet with community and cultural leaders, provide technical assistance to arts organizations, and learn how to better serve the community. To make an appointment, contact Michael Donovan in advance at 314-340-4740 ormichael...@ded.mo.gov. Meetings will take place in the Walton Building, 300 South Providence Road, from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dedication for the city's Short Street Parking Garage and Percent for Art project…Please join staff from Public Works and the Office of Cultural Affairs for an official dedication for the city's newest parking garage along with its Percent for Art project, Tidal Murmur, a stainless steel sculpture by artist Beth Nybeck, on Tuesday, April 29, 4:30 p.m. at the Short Street Parking Garage, 1110 East Walnut Street.

Established by city ordinance in 1997, Columbia’s Percent for Art program is one of two in the state, and the only one outside of a major metropolitan area. The resulting placement of works of site-specific public art provides greater access to the arts to diverse audiences in varied settings and was a factor in Columbia being named Missouri’s first-ever Creative Community in 2007 by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. The Percent for Art project at the Short Street Parking Garage is the twelfth commission to be completed.

Deadline for the City’s Annual Arts Funding Process is approaching…Applications must be in the OCA by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. This is NOT a postmark deadline -- if you mail your application, please allow additional time for the city’s mail room to process items after the Post Office does so. Late applications will not be considered.
