The Commission on Cultural Affairs will not hold its regular meeting in September...regularly scheduled monthly meetings of the Commission will resume on October 12, 4:15 p.m. in the community room of the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road. Commission meetings are always open to the public.

Creative Kids Family Fun Fest

Don’t miss this annual event on Wednesday, September 16, 6 to 8 p.m. in Cosmo Park (1615 Business Loop 70 West). The event will feature free participatory art activities and kid-friendly performances of music, theatre and dance, all free. Local arts groups participating include Access Arts – School of Service, the Columbia Art League, Mid-Missouri Woodcarvers, Missouri Contemporary Ballet, and Performing Arts in Children's Education. The event is a collaboration of the city’s OCA and Parks and Recreation Department with financial assistance provided by the Missouri Arts Council. Commemorative Poster Unveiled

Congratulations go to David Spear whose oil on board titled "Tribute to Blind Boone" has been unveiled as the 2015 Columbia Commemorative Poster. The work was selected from 37 images submitted by10 Mid-Missouri artists through a jury process. Spear received his BFA from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and MFA in painting from the University of Missouri-Columbia. As a resident of Columbia since 2000, Spear has works on display throughout the city and has previously collaborated with the Office of Cultural Affairs on works at the Wabash Bus Station, Jefferson Middle School, and the traffic box on 9th and Broadway, along with educational projects at the Fun City Youth Academy. Spear currently works on commissions and illustrations for a variety of clients and is an instructor in the Fine Arts Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The painting is a tribute to one of Columbia's finest and most revered sons, John William "Blind" Boone. The 2015 Columbia Commemorative Poster can be purchased at Deck the Walls in the Columbia Mall, or at the city’s OCA, 300 S. Providence Road.


Small Request Funding

Applications for Small Request funding are being accepted on a rolling deadline and must be submitted to the OCA office no later than two months prior to the project’s start date (i.e., if your project begins on November 18, your application must be received by September 18).  Only arts organizations with 501(c)(3) status may apply; if you do not have a 501(c)(3) you may collaborate with an organization that does.
