I have recently been trying to setup Globus Connect on my work laptop, on which I run Arch Linux. I have been able to create personal endpoints but I haven't been able to activate them or use them in transfers.
When I run the command ./globusconnectpersonal -setup, I can complete the login/authentication stage and the setting of the endpoint name, however after this point I am met with this error:
registered new endpoint, id: ******************************************
failed to parse linux distro information
relaytool setup exit with status 1, indicating failure. use debug mode for full output
relaytool failed, full error info available in register.log

Setup did not complete successfully.
You may want to check /home/Felix/.globusonline/lta/register.log for more information
within the log here is the error:
2025-10-02 16:36:17,729; [ERROR] platform_settings.py::37 [_get_linux_distro_name] failed to parse linux distro information
2025-10-02 16:42:58,021; [WARNING] relaytool.py::136 [invoke_relaytool] relaytool setup exit with status 1, indicating failure. use debug mode for full output

I am wondering if anyone has previous experienced this error and has a workaround or solution? Or is globus connect is simply not compatible with arch. I have contacted my organizations internal IT support team but they were not able to help with this issue.
Many Thanks for any help that you can offer
Best Wishes

The distro information comes from parsing the NAME and VERSION_ID lines
in /etc/os-release. However, an error there shouldn't be fatal, and I
suspect that is unrelated to the real error.

Try running with GCP_DEBUG=1 set in the environment, which should give
more detail as to why relaytool is failing.

FYI ... Arch Linux's /etc/os-release does not include a VERSION_ID line ... so that is why it most likely complains.
