I am a bit confused by the recent change from group name of Globus Plus to Globus for my institution's subscription group. It seems that this does not confer any new functionality to members of that group past the Globus Plus features. Is this correct?

I recently received a request to join from someone who is affiliated with my organization, but is not on my local campus, which is at the moment the primary (only?) user of our subscription. I don't believe it's necessary to accept them into the group, because I don't think they need Globus Plus features. They should still be able to log into and use Globus either using their host institute's authentication, globusid, ORCID, etc, and adding them to our Globus subscription group wouldn't make them able to authenticate using our authentication system.

Some clarification of this change and whether there will be future additions to this subscription group would be really helpful.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

We recently added the ability to manage your own subscription: https://www.globus.org/blog/introducing-subscription-management. With this new capability the features available to individual users via Globus Plus - as well as others, such as the ability to create multiple flows - are now available to them as members of your subscription.

Users that were members of your Globus Plus group were automatically added as members of your subscription and should see no change. It’s up to you whether or not to approve any additional requests to join your subscription. Subscription membership does not change the authentication mechanism in any way so, as you say, external users will be able to access Globus with their institution’s identity as they have previously.

Hope that clarifies things.

Cheers,
Vas

Hi Vas,

Thank you for the clarification. Sounds like what I need to do in the near term is actually fill in that description with the purpose of the group and exactly what joining it _doesn't_ do for you... :)
