Looking to not register an endpoint but transfer files.

Globus uses a hybrid architecture that requires local software installation for accessing your storage system. You can deploy Globus Connect Server using a container (see https://github.com/globus/globus-connect-server-deploy), but you will still need to register an endpoint with the Globus service.
