Hi Global majors,
The Department of Global Studies is thrilled to announce the creation of a departmental Honors Program for the 2024-25 academic year!
More information will be forthcoming the week after spring quarter grades are released, but please read on for some early information about this exciting new opportunity.
What’s an honors program and why might you be interested?
The aim of an honors program is to enrich the educational experience of our undergraduate students. The Global Studies Honors Program is designed for exceptionally motivated students who desire research opportunities to deepen their engagement with major coursework. The Global Studies Honors Program provides students in the major the unique opportunity to work with a faculty mentor on an independent and original research project for a full academic year. Students who enroll in, and successfully complete, an Honors Program are awarded “Distinction in the Major.” Students will also present their work in an annual-end-of-year Undergraduate Spring Colloquium.
Who is eligible to join the Global Studies Honors Program?
Honors Program admission is highly selective. Students with a minimum 3.5 overall GPA and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the Global Studies major are eligible to apply. Eligible students must have completed at least two upper division core courses (Global 110/120/130/140) and at least one additional upper division Global Studies course by the end of the spring quarter of their junior year. Note: Students must also maintain a 3.5 GPA during their senior year.
Eligible students will receive an invitation from the Honors Program Director encouraging them to apply shortly after the spring quarter of their junior year.
