Wildlands Studies offers international environmental field programs where students gain hands-on field experience while earning upper-division academic credit. Students study topics such as ecology, conservation biology, climate change, environmental policy, geology, and human–environment relationships, all while working alongside PhD scientists and professional researchers in the field.

Programs take place in Australia, Belize, Chile, Ecuador, French Polynesia, Iceland, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand, Alaska, and Yellowstone, and bring together students from universities across North America. Participants can earn up to 15 upper-division credits through Western Washington University, and scholarships and financial aid may apply.

Hi Meghan,

Miles Rohrer from Wildlands Studies here, hoping the spring quarter is starting off great this week!

The time has come for another visit from Wildlands Studies. Through coordination with the Environmental Studies Department, I will be conducting a Student Information Session in Bren Hall room 4016, ES Seminar Room at 4:00pm on Thursday, April 9th. This is an excellent opportunity for UCSB students to learn about our upcoming field studies, and I would really appreciate it if you could forward the announcement and flyer below to your student listserv.

We're excited for the coming academic year of field study programs, and thrilled to be operating another program in Thailand this fall: Human Elephant Coexistence, Wildlife Recovery and Stewardship. Spaces remain but are filling up, watch a program overview here!

I’m looking forward to visiting again and I plan to drop by the department office on Monday or Tuesday, so if there’s a window of time that works best, please let me know. We appreciate your continued support.

Thank you, and see you soon!

Best,

Miles
