What is UCSB's Capital Internship Program?

UCSB's Capital Internship Program (CIP) is an academic internship program that enables students to live, study, and intern in Washington, DC (UCDC) or Sacramento.

Interns receive valuable practical experience & guidance from UC staff and access to unique professional development opportunities.

Set yourself apart from others by getting this hands-on experience before graduating!

UCDC Application Deadlines

Winter 2027: September 30, 2026

Curriculum & Internships

Course + Internship (12 units total)

     -Internship (8 units) 
     -Seminar course (4 units)

Current and projected course offerings

Past internship organizations -not limited to political science 

Previously pre-approved major courses. Ask your department if your selected course may be preapproved.

Summer term: students intern only for academic units (4-8) and do not enroll in courses.

Curriculum & Internships

Program focuses on public policy and research

Courses + Internship + Research (16 units total)

    -Internship (6 units)
    -Essentials of Policy Research (2 units)
    -California Politics and Policy (4 units)
    -Research Design & Methods (4 units)

Previous internship organizations -under the Student Spotlight posts.

Obtain RESEARCH experience in addition to getting internship experience.
